If you’re gearing up for the 2017 AUSA Annual Meeting & Expo and have some time for sightseeing in the nation’s capital, we’ve put together a list of 10 attractions to help you out.

Five Famous Attractions

National Mall: This is the place to go if you only have time for one excursion while exhibiting. You can see all the famous monuments and memorials all in one place. You can even catch a view of the White House near the Washington Monument. Don’t miss the Lincoln Memorial or the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall.

Smithsonian Institution: This is the world’s largest museum and research complex. Whether you’re into art or outer space, you’ll find a museum that suits your tastes. If you only have time for one, the Museum of Natural History is a public favorite, with its mummies, dinosaur bones and the Hope Diamond.

National Zoo: A part of the Smithsonian, more than 1,800 animals call this home. For you it can mean an awesome day of fun. And better yet, it’s free.

U.S. Capitol: Reservations are required in advance if you’d like to take a free guided group tour of the capitol building. Tours begin at the Capitol Visitor Center, and once inside the U.S. Capitol, you’ll see the Crypt, the Rotunda, and National Statuary Hall.

Arlington National Cemetery: An eye-opening experience for every American. Don’t miss the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

C&O Canal National Historical Park: Enjoy the great outdoors. Plus explore one of America’s earliest canal systems; it’s 184.5 miles long!

Washington National Cathedral: This spiritual home to several U.S. Presidents has lots of history. Whether or not you’re religious, it’s worth a visit for its stunning beauty and architecture.
